Our Middlesbrough fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their team can stay up but they’re not exactly impressed by Martin de Roon’s comments to Voetbal International – via The Sun.
The Boro have gone fairly well this season under Aitor Karanka but their one big issue has to be that they’re not scoring goals.
And, whilst their defence is quite decent, that is not going to keep you in the league for long.
Meanwhile, the likes of de Roon have also impressed since he joined in the summer and it appears he has his sights on moving up the league – with or without the Riverside Stadium outfit.
“I am incredibly lucky – I play for a good club and live in a nice area – but I am ambitious as well.
“But I do think that I can develop myself to the level needed to play for a club like Everton.”
Lofty ambitions from the midfielder, then, but he’s surely not going to endear himself with the Boro faithful for such open comments.
Even so, it is refreshing to see players being frank with their ambitions and our landlord hopes de Roon doesn’t get hammered too much to allow other players to offer up their opinions, too.
Coincidentally enough, Boro play Everton this weekend and so we may see a man of the match performance from the summer signing.
