Chelsea were able to salvage a point from their side’s clash with Roma on Wednesday evening, but the game was not without problems for the Blues. Antonio Conte revealed that he has two more injury concerns following the game in both Tiemoue Bakayoko and David Luiz, which would leave the boss very short in midfield. Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante are, of course, also likely to be unavailable having been missing for several weeks – meaning that only Cesc Fabregas may be available this weekend.
Of course, there are a few days until Chelsea’s next fixture, and so Conte will be hoping for a miracle and that at least one of those players recovers in time, but he must prepare just in case the worst should happen.
He does have options, but most of them come with a lot of risk. He could opt to move young Andreas Christensen forward, with the Dane having some experience of the role thus far in his career. Like David Luiz, he’s a reliable tackler and an excellent passer, and so he could fit into the role well. However, with Luiz potentially out, his skill set may be needed in defence.
Another option is young Ethan Ampadu. Able to play in both midfield and defence, Ampadu has already made his Chelsea debut, and whilst it would be a big call from Conte to include him, he’s certainly got the talent for it.
Kyle Scott is another option, and he’s the player that our landlord would go for. He’s been a frequent member of the Chelsea first team squad this season, though he hasn’t really been involved in first-team duties on the pitch. Conte clearly rates him, though, and so the Italian could opt for him. A regular for the Chelsea developmental sides prior to his first team promotion, Scott is a pretty experienced player, albeit only at a youth level. He’s a good tackler and passer, and so may be a good fit.
There are a few options for Conte, but who should he pick? Have you got someone else in mind? Vote below and let us know why!
