Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team kick off 2018 with a hard-fought but ultimately crucial 2-1 victory over Burnley on New Year’s Day.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Clarets off the back of successive wins over Swansea City and Leicester City, results which have put them in the driving seat to finish in the Premier League’s top four. And the Reds tightened their grip on fourth place on Monday as a Ragnar Klavan header in the fourth minute of added time sealed a narrow success over Sean Dyche’s side, who looked on course for a point when Johann Gudmundsson cancelled out Sadio Mane’s excellent opener just a few minutes from time.
Subsequently, there have many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be intrigued and perhaps encouraged by a recent report from Diario Gol (via talkSPORT), which suggests that Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos desires a move to Anfield this month.
The 21-year-old only made the move to the Bernabeu during the summer but has struggled to convince manager Zinedine Zidane of his capabilities, with just six La Liga appearances to show for his efforts in the first half of the season.
And with no league start since their 3-0 victory over Eibar back in October, the writing appears to be on the wall for the Spain Under-21 international, who reportedly wants out of the Spanish capital and as such desires a move to Klopp’s Liverpool.
And with the Reds facing the very real prospect of both Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho leaving, be it this month or in the summer, Klopp may look at Ceballos as an ideal signing to bolster his midfield ranks.
Landlord’s verdict: Dani Ceballos’ big move to Real Madrid in the summer simply hasn’t worked out for the 21-year-old, who has just six La Liga appearances to show for his efforts.
And with it looking increasingly unlikely that he’ll force his way into Zinedine Zidane’s plans, the Spain Under-21 international reportedly wants to leave the Bernabeu this month, with a move to Liverpool reportedly his desire.
This could well be music to the ears of Reds chief Jurgen Klopp, who has been linked with the midfielder in recent times, as possible departures in the form of Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho could leave his squad short of midfield options.
But whether this recent development is enough to see the Merseysiders seal a deal for Ceballos remains to be seen.
