Midfield Unit Missing Piece of the Arsene’s Promising Puzzle?

It’s finally here! Deadline day has arrived and will promptly shut at 11pm tonight. Whilst there will be many managers who cannot wait for the window to shut, for the rumours to stop and most important hang on to their best players, the majority will be looking at how they can squeeze in those last minute deals to improve their squads.

Arsene has indicated that he does intend to strengthen, he is yet to make his move. It seems that the likes of M’Vila, Tiote and Cabaye will not be making the move, how about the latest player to be linked with a move to the club? It is believed that Arsene has made an enquiry about the availability of Chelsea’s Michael Essien (telegraph.co.uk). He admitted that if a ‘top, top player’ did become available he would spend. Wenger has always been shrewd in the transfer market, spending within his means and not overpaying for a player.

The move for Essien would most likely be a loan one. The 29-year-old Ghanian has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea since his injury and it seems that Roberto Di Matteo prefers Obi Mikel in that defensive midfield position. However, it remains unlikely that West London club would be willing to allow a player of his quality make the move to North London.

Essien is definitely a player that Arsenal could do with, especially after the departure of Alex Song. He would provide the cover the defence would need and undoubtedly still has a lot to give.
