Midfielder coy over future as Mourinho contemplates Man Utd summer plans

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are keen for Jose Mourinho to improve their side this summer…

Though the 2016/17 campaign was a successful one on the trophy front, many in the pub were unhappy with their side’s performances over the course of the season, and so they are demanding some new players join the club before the start of the next campaign.

The Red Devils have reportedly received a boost in that regard this week, with apparent midfield target Blaise Matuidi delivering a coy response when questioned on his PSG future. According to the Independent, Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing Matuidi to the club this summer as a short-term replacement for Michael Carrick, and when questioned on his PSG future, Matuidi said: “There is no decision taken so far. Honestly, I don’t want to lie, I don’t know yet”.

Whilst it is important not to jump the gun and use this as an assumption of an impending departure, it does serve as a means of offering Man Utd a lifeline in their reported pursuit. If he had committed his future to PSG, it would have likely closed the door on a deal, but at present, the door is – at the very least – slightly ajar.

Matuidi would certainly bring a lot to the party at Old Trafford, with his experience, running and relentless tackling able to add a real edge to the Man Utd midfield.
