We have been waiting for this story here in the Football Transfer Tavern for some time now and finally Metro have made a strong link between Luka Modric and a return to the Premier League and after his recent performance in the Champions League it seems one particular close competitor has sat up and taken notice. Yes, the team he recently downed – Manchester United.
Of course the former Spurs player has struggled to find his feet at Real Madrid and the goal against Manchester United was probably the first thing of note he has done all season long. Cue an unhappy Luka, little playing time and a club willing to sell and attempt to recoup some of the £33 million they paid for him.
Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson have long been interested in Modric and were one of the favourites to sign him when he initially left Spurs yet lost out to Jose Mourinho’s Los Blancos outfit. Now the club are back with a bang and Modric himself is thought to be very open to a move that he hopes would revitalise his playing career and put him back up there with the best in his position.
After changing the game in the Champions League round of the last sixteen tie, Modric deservedly received plaudits but this will not be enough to keep him at the Bernabeu or indeed place him in Mourinho’s staring eleven according to Metro.
Could United swoop for the man that just helped eliminate them from the Champions League? Rate this rumour below.
