Newcastle's business this summer has been typical of Mike Ashley as the oft-criticized owner has sought to supplement the squad on the cheap.

Recently there have been reports that club captain and star man, Jamaal Lascelles has attracted interest from multiple clubs, namely West Ham and Leicester City. West Ham had a bid rejected for Lascelles recently, while Leicester City have identified him as a replacement for Harry Maguire, should he go.

While Rafa Benitez will fight to keep his star man, we all know that there's always the chance that Mike Ashley can be tempted into a good deal for a player. If any bid comes in anywhere close to £30 million, Ashley may just take it.

The Newcastle owner loves selling players for high fees while also bringing in replacements on the cheap.

It might be an anxious last few days of the transfer window for Benitez but here are two new players the Spaniard should bring in if Lascelles departs.

Starting with a centre-back who's just been relegated, Alfie Mawson would be an ideal replacement for Lascelles.

The 24-year-old defender has steadily become one of Swansea's best players since he arrived two seasons ago. Although Swansea suffered a terrible season which resulted in relegation, Mawson was one of the few players who actually played well.

Moreover, with only two years left on his contract, selling him now might be a good scenario for Swansea.

While this one may not be as likely as Alfie Mawson, a move for Shawcross might be a smart move by Newcastle.

Given his age, the club might be able to get the defender on a relatively cheap deal, and importantly for Ashley, for a lot less than any potential sale for Lascelles, saving him money.

The experience Premier League defender would be able to come in and start straight away for the club and his experience might well be crucial in helping Schar bed in.
