Newcastle United fans will agree that their side are definitely heading in the right direction as they’re beginning to grind out positive results. The Magpies have taken 11 points from their last six games which has helped them climb up the table and away from relegation trouble.
Rafa Benitez’s future is one thing that’s been worrying supporters in recent times but another thing that could potentially raise a few concerns is Martin Dubravka’s future. The Slovakian’s agent Pavel Vika told Ruik in the Czech Republic (via HITC) that Juventus and a host of Premier League clubs want to sign the shot-stopper.
The Newcastle man has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this season, so the last thing the Magpies would want is to lose the 30-year-old. Indeed, the likes of Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman are waiting in the wings but they’re not quite on the same level as Dubravka at this moment in time.
One player who could be of interest to Newcastle is Burnley’s Nick Pope. The Clarets are looking to cash in on the Englishman, according to The Sun. And, they reportedly want around £10 million for him in the summer.
Interestingly, the Daily Mail reported last month that Newcastle have been monitoring the Burnley man.
Pope hasn’t enjoyed much success at Turf Moor in the current campaign as he’s only managed to feature in FA Cup games, with Joe Hart and Tom Heaton currently ahead of him in the pecking order.
He’d be the perfect replacement for Dubravka as he’s relatively young, an accomplished shot-stopper and he’s shown over the years that he can keep things tight in-between the sticks, which helped him secure an England cap last year. Indeed, it’s safe to say that he’d still be in the England fold if it wasn’t for injuries and he’s available at a cheap price, so a summer move for the 26-year-old really is a no brainer.
Newcastle United fans, do you think Pope can fill the potential Dubravka void?
