Liverpool have finally ended the goalkeeping problem that has plagued them since Pepe Reina’s departure.

Following Loris Karius’ errors in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, it seemed inevitable that Liverpool would sign a new goalkeeper in the summer. However, Jurgen Klopp kept faith in the German. However, after more unconvincing performances in pre-season, Klopp’s hand was forced.

Liverpool completed a move for Roma goalkeeper Alisson last week, much to the joy of fans.

Alisson’s arrival will more than likely spell the end of the line for Simon Mignolet and Danny Ward. However, Karius should also be sold and replaced with a promising young keeper who can learn from Alisson. That man could be Benfica wonderkid Mile Svilar.

Valued at £2.25m by Transfermarkt, the Belgian joined the Portuguese side from Anderlecht last summer. He made three appearances in Liga NOS as well as three starts in the Champions League despite being just 18-years-old – becoming the youngest goalkeeper in the competition’s history.

Svilar is a modern day sweeper keeper with a bright future. The youngster is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet and loves starting attacks from the back. His ability to read the game well helps him make key interceptions when leaving his line.

Due to his age, there are many holes in his game which were highlighted in his blunders against Manchester United. However, he will stamp out his mistakes with time and Liverpool would have a future star on their hands.

A few years under Alisson would be huge for him, and the Reds would arguably have one of, if not the best goalkeeping duo in England.
