Newcastle United supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been revelling in their side’s significant upturn in form in recent weeks.
Rafa Benitez’s men lost their opening two Premier League matches of the campaign against Tottenham and Huddersfield to underline the enormity of the task ahead for the Magpies, but they have since responded in fine fashion.
The North East giants breezed past West Ham 3-0 at St James’ Park before securing narrow victories over Swansea City and Stoke City, a run which has propelled them up to fourth in the division at this early stage of the season.
And they will take much confidence into their clash with Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, which could see them come up against goalkeeper Tim Krul, who has today secured a permanent move to the AMEX Stadium from St James’ Park.
The Netherlands international spent over a decade at Newcastle but has enjoyed spells on loan at Ajax and AZ in recent times, before initially signing a temporary deal with Chris Hughton’s Seagulls last month.
Yet that deal has officially been made permanent today, in news which has stimulated quite a response from Newcastle fans on Twitter.
And it’s fair to say that many are surprised at the announcement…
Is there any need to do this right now? Such a weird club. Just be normal.

Thanks Tim. One of the best keepers we’ve had in the premier league, shame it ends how it did

Not sad to see him go. Turned his back on championship. Rafa didn’t want him that’s good enough for me. Plus we’ve 3 great gks esp woodman

Very disappointed and quite angry at this.

If this means Krul can play on Sunday, this sums up Ashley’s management of the club. Penalty save and clean sheet written all over it…

On big wages, wouldn’t have been first choice and would have delayed woodmans progress.
