The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait for the new Premier League season…
Last season was one to forget, and so all supporters are ready to put it to the back of their minds and focus on achieving success in the next term.
Their preparations for the new season have been going well on the pitch, with a number of players impressing for the Gunners. However, with pre-season now reaching its climax, Arsene Wenger has delivered an injury update for his side, and the news is mixed at best.
As per the official Arsenal website, Wenger has revealed that the majority of Arsenal’s squad is fit and well, with Jack Wilshere set to return over the coming days. However, Gabriel is said to be several weeks from recovery – whilst Santi Cazorla’s return date is still unknown.
Significantly, Wenger didn’t provide an update on the fitness of Alexis Sanchez, who recently took to social media to reveal that he is currently suffering with an illness.
With just a couple of weeks to go until the start of the season, Wenger will want his squad at full strength. Wilshere will likely be back in time, whilst Gabriel’s return appears to be touch and go.
Fortunately for the Gunners, their injury list is small, but that does not mean it is not significant. Gabriel’s injury, in particular, leaves the side short at the back – whilst a poor pre-season for Jack Wilshere doesn’t bode well for the season ahead given his past injury problems.
However, with a couple of weeks to go until the start of the new season, Arsenal’s relatively clean bill of health is good news – with Arsene Wenger able to choose from the majority of his players as he looks to build a side to face Chelsea in the Community Shield.
