Modric’s Move Away Stalls Yet Spurs Eye-Up Unproven Replacement?

With Luka Modric’s future at White Hart Lane being uncertain, Tottenham Hotspur are looking at possible replacements for the Croatian as they anticipate a team without him.

The Mirror have reported that Spurs are looking away from the likes of £25 million Joao Moutinho, and instead have opted for the more affordable Mohamed Kamara.

The 24 year old midfielder is thought to be available for only £12 million, with his club Partizan Belgrade open to the Sierra Leone international leaving the Serbian League team.

The defensive midfielder has also played in the Finnish League, where he won trophies with with KuPS and HJK. Since joining Partizan in 2010, Kamara has won 3 trophies for the club, including the Serbian SuperLiga twice and the Serbian Cup once. Also, Mohamed was listed in last seasons’ Serbian League team of the year after an impressive campaign.

Despite his successes, Kamara has only made 3 appearances in the Champions League and with the Serbian League not having the same tempo or flair as the Premier League, it is doubtful that Kamara would be able to step up to replace Modric in such a prestigious League.

With Luka Modric playing the attacking midfielder role, it would be a very defensive move for new boss Villas-Boas to replace Modric with a defensive midfielder.

In Tottenham’s pre-season games, the former Chelsea boss has lined up the squad in a 4-2-3-1 formation. With Lennon, Sigurdsson and Bale playing behind Jermain Defoe, this move could suggest that Sigurdsson was in-fact Modric’s highly anticipated replacement.

The defensive midfield has looked incredibly weak however, and would have alerted the attention of the club. With Jake Livemore and Jermaine Jenas taking up these positions, their performances have raised a few eyebrows as of late. However, with Tom Huddlestone, Sandro and Scott Parker all being the regular starters for the defensive midfield position, it would be foolish for the North London side to prioritise this area of midfield over their strikers crisis.

Currently, Spurs only have one high-profiled striker with the start of the season being only 8 days away, which has piled the pressure on Jermain Defoe to perform this season.
