Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are anxiously awaiting their first summer signing of the summer and our punters are hopeful the Blues can return to the top of the Premier League.
The Blues were disappointing in the Premier League, managing just a fifth-place finish in Antonio Conte’s second season at the club. However, they did not end the season trophyless, defeating Manchester United to scoop the FA Cup. Nevertheless, Conte’s future has been plunged into doubt after missing out on the Champions League. Owner Roman Abramovich has issues of his own after being denied a VISA to enter the United Kingdom.
Our regulars are hoping the club can put the behind the scenes issues behind them and start making moves in the transfer market. Regardless of who is in charge, a new striker will be a priority with Alvaro Morata failing to impress since moving from Real Madrid. One man that could solve their issue is Juventus forward – Gonzalo Higuain.
Valued at £54m by Transfermarkt, the Argentine has fuelled speculation of a move by stating he would love to play in the Premier League. The 30-year-old scored 23 goals and registered eight assists in all competitions last season and would guarantee goals at Stamford Bridge. While he isn’t a long-term solution, he is a significant upgrade on Chelsea’s current forwards.
With Morata linked with a move back to Turin, Chelsea should make sure Higuain heads to England as part of any deal. The Argentina international has a vast amount of experience that would help fire Chelsea back into title contention.
