The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern weren’t sure that their season could get any worse…
It has been a horrendous start to the season for the Eagles. Having cemented their place in the Premier League in recent years, the arrival of Frank De Boer was expected to take the club to the next level, but in reality, the very opposite has happened.
They’ve found themselves in a relegation battle, and not even the arrival of Roy Hodgson has been able to save them thus far. A 5-0 defeat against Man City over the weekend left the fans in the Transfer Tavern in a very bad mood indeed, but it appears as though there is even more frustrating news for the club.
According to the Telegraph, the latest update on Christian Benteke’s fitness is a very bad one, with the Belgian now expected to be out for at least six weeks. He picked up the blow against Man City, making their defeat at the hands of the Manchester-based club even worse.
Of course, Benteke has long been touted in the pub as Palace’s best player, and so this will come as a huge problem for Roy Hodgson, with the former England boss now very short on depth in the attacking third.
The Belgian has struggled this term, having yet to score in the Premier League.
Sure, Benteke’s form has been poor this season, but his record speaks for itself.
Whilst at Aston Villa, he was able to keep the club up mostly on his own performances, and he hasn’t lost that ability.
He’ll be available as the season heats up, which is a positive, but the Eagles could be down and out in six weeks’ time.
