Southampton could be set to lose club captain Steven Davis in the January transfer window.

The Saints have struggled immensely this season with Mark Hughes’ side sat just above the relegation zone. The St. Marys faithful would have hoped to avoid another relegation dogfight, but their early form suggests it could be another long season. To make matters worse, reports indicate club captain Davis could angle for a transfer in the January window.

Steven Gerrard is reportedly a huge fan of the midfielder and wants to bring him back to Rangers when the window reopens in the New Year. Davis has found playing time hard to come by this season and could be tempted to return to Ibrox. To replace him, Southampton should make a bold move to resign Everton midfielder – Morgan Schneiderlin.

Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the Frenchman has endured a difficult time on Merseyside since joining from Manchester United back in January 2017. Schneiderlin has failed to reach the heights achieved during his time with the Saints and looks set to depart the Toffees after slipping down the pecking order. A return to St. Marys could be just what he needs to rediscover his best form.

The 28-year-old remains a top player and enjoyed seven wonderful years on the South Coast. It was no surprise to see Manchester United make a move for the midfielder after a fantastic 2014/15 season. Schneiderlin averaged an incredible 3.7 tackles and 2.6 interceptions per game as well as chipping in with four Premier League goals (WhoScored) – if he can get back to his best, this move could prove to be a masterstroke.
