It not too often in the Football Transfer Tavern that we see a come and get me plea from Premier League transfer targets but that appears to be the case this morning after Metro reported that Udinese defender Mehdi Benatia told Manchester United to move for this summer, or risk seeing him stay in Italy.
Sir Alex Ferguson is on the lookout for defensive cover during the summer, despite sealing the Premier League title on Monday, and Benatia is known to be on his radar after the 26-year-old impressed for the Serie A club.
It is understood that United have already made contact with Udinese about a possible transfer and this has clearly affected Benatia who has now stated that the Old Trafford outfit need to move for him soon.
“I am enjoying my time in Italy – the league is very good,” said Benatia.
“It would always be my first choice, unless one of the huge English teams that follows me makes a bid.
“If there is a big offer from there, I would definitely consider it, but otherwise I’ll stay in Italy.”
Udinese are looking for around £15 million to secure the defender’s services but Ferguson is not willing to go that high.
