Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been criticising comments made by their manager, Mauricio Pellegrino, ahead of their vital trip to St James Park. Pellegrino’s comments about the spirit among the squad haven’t gone down well with the fans who have been struggling to find positives in what has been a dire season.

Mauricio Pellegrino took over Claude Puel as the Southampton manager at the start of the season but so far he’s struggled to win over the fans as the south coast club have been living life dangerously close to the relegation zone this campaign. The Saints sit just one point above the drop zone in 17th place, despite losing the joint least amount of games of any club in the bottom half of the table.
Our resident Southampton fans have been left questioning their club’s decision to sack Puel at the end of last season as he steered the St Mary’s faithful to an 8th placed finish and took them to Wembley, where they were narrowly beaten by Manchester United in the League Cup final.
With that in mind, here is the Southampton fans’ verdict:
That’s good that we are ready to compete…

"SOLID" Inspiring stuff as ever. This man could send a glass eye to sleep. Should be saying the team will go for it hell for leather as we have to win. Nope, we have to be…SOLID.
