The ears of Manchester United and Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern have perked up, after hearing comments about a player’s future from the most reliable of sources.
The Daily Express quotes the mother of Real Madrid icon James Rodriguez as directly addressing transfer rumours, with growing speculation the Colombian World Cup hero will leave the Santiago Bernabeu.
Rodriguez has four years remaining on his contract in the Spanish capital but has started just 13 La Liga matches this term. As a result, Manchester United and Chelsea have been alerted to his services whilst reports suggest Los Blancos will sell for £60m.
Now James Rodriguez’ mother, Pilar Rubio, has revealed her stance on the transfer speculation, stating the final decision is down to three key parties.
“I don’t get involved [with his footballing future]. His transfer situation has always been handed with reservation. It is a decision that will taken between Madrid president Perez, James and his agent.”
“He has to play the same and give the same effort no matter what shirt or boots he wears.”
With such a high-profile name, it’s extremely likely James Rodriguez will seek a club with Champions League football and that could be difficult to both Premier League parties.
