The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned that Jose Mourinho may have his work cut out in the second-half of the season. Though the Portuguese has often delivered trophies in his second season, the manager has struggled this term, with poor results over the last few weeks raising concern amongst our resident Red Devils.
That being said, the manager has always been able to surprise fans by coming through with fantastic runs and performances leading to an eventual crowning, and so there is still hope for the club.
He can’t do it alone, though, and despite spending big over the summer, it seems that the manager wants to bring in even more top-tier talent to make his team more competitive, at least according to the Sun. The Sun reports that Jose Mourinho is desperate to land Tottenham defender Danny Rose, in a move that would add some real quality to the Man Utd defence.
Apparently rated at £50 million by Tottenham, the Lilywhites would, of course, be hesitant to lose the defender mid-season, but they could be willing to do a deal if their demands are met.
Financially, the Red Devils haven’t been afraid to spend big in recent years, but whether they want to spend that much on a player that has spent much of the last year on the shelf remains to be seen.
Still, he’d certainly add some quality to the team. A lighting fast defender, Rose would add genuine world-class talent to the left-hand side of the Man Utd first team, providing fantastic attacking play whilst also remaining consistent defensively.
In terms of quality, you’d struggle to find better than Rose – but where a move would leave Luke Shaw remains to be seen.
Shaw has enjoyed somewhat of a rebirth in recent weeks, impressing our resident Red Devils along the way, and a move for Rose would likely mean that he gets thrust out of the first team once again.
Still, Mourinho appears keen to get this deal done, and it’s a deal that, seemingly, if they pay up, they could land.
