The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern were shocked when they saw that midfielder Marouane Fellaini had been named captain…
Indeed, over the weekend, as Man Utd took on Sunderland, the Belgian donned the captain’s armband for the first time in his Man Utd career – putting in a fairly decent display for the Red Devils.
Having joined the club in 2012, Fellaini’s tenure has been mixed, with fans in the Transfer Tavern often divided over his quality. An undoubtedly strong character and imposing figure, Fellaini’s quality with the ball at his feet has come under fire, though he has often put in good performances for Man Utd.
Under Jose Mourinho, his career has seemingly taken an upsurge in momentum, with the Portuguese manager seemingly rating him very highly, as proven by his decision to make him captain over the weekend.
Unsurprisingly, the news was taken with a mixed reaction on Twitter, with many questioning Mourinho’s decision – and many more praising the Belgian following the end of the game…
This season I've seen Carrick outrun Aguero, Valencia cross with his left foot, and Fellaini captain United. What a time to be alive. #mufc

Mourinho gave the captain armband to Fellaini so that, under pressure he will perform good!
Mourinho does it again! #MUFC

Mourinho's made #mufc like clowns by naming Fellaini captain. Once respected&feared, now a laughing stock. What a shame!
