It has been a tough few weeks for Paul Pogba, and our resident Man Utd fans have been left feeling disappointed. The Frenchman has yet to hit the heights of his tenure at Juventus, and Jose Mourinho has – on the surface – seemingly not been happy about it.
Withdrawn from action a couple of times over the last few weeks, Mourinho clearly hasn’t been happy with the Frenchman’s performances, but according to the Telegraph, this is not a reason for concern.
Pogba, on his day, is a fantastic player, and in truth, his stats this season certainly seem to suggest that he hasn’t had a bad season. Indeed, with 3 goals and 9 assists in the English top flight, it could be much worse for the Frenchman.
However, that being said, he was brought in to be the focal point of the Man Utd squad, and he hasn’t been that yet this season. On more than one occasion, Mourinho has looked to players like Pogba to turn a game around, and rarely has the Frenchman stepped up to the plate.
He’s having a good season, but Man Utd clearly – given how much they paid for him – want him to have a great season, and that’s an important distinction to make.
Still, there is time for him to make it right, and Mourinho doesn’t look ready to throw in the towel yet.
Pogba is a top player, there’s no doubting that.
His transition to life at Man Utd has been anything but smooth, but at 24-years-old, there is still time to reach his peak.
That being said, he needs to back up Mourinho’s faith with more consistency.
