Mourinho has some big Man Utd problems to deal with ahead of Sevilla clash

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to the return of the Champions League. The Red Devils haven’t been able to enjoy the excitement of the knockout stages of Europe’s premier competition as of late, and so Jose Mourinho will be under pressure to ensure that their journey continues for a while yet.

Unfortunately, then, news that the Red Devils have some pretty big problems ahead of the game will come as a concern to our resident Old Trafford attending fans.

Jose Mourinho has confirmed, via the official Man Utd website, that his team is dealing with a number of fitness issues at the moment. The quartet of Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Marouane Fellaini and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are expected to miss the game, whilst Paul Pogba remains touch-and-go.

Mourinho did add that the trio of Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia have a chance of featuring, but he failed to confirm that any of them would start.

Even with the added bonus of a potential return for three of Man Utd’s stars, this is bad news for Man Utd. Jose Mourinho’s options, especially at the back, are not particularly varied, and so this is only going to make his team selection dilemma more complicated.

Not to mention, the uncertainty ahead of the game will make preparations particularly difficult, with several players availability likely to go down to the wire. This is far from ideal for Mourinho.

Landlord’s Verdict

Man Utd should have enough to beat Sevilla, but this will really make their preparations more difficult.

Mourinho will need all the strength that he can get, and with so many players in with a chance of missing the game – some of whom would undoubtedly start if fit – he’s likely to be fearing the worst.
