Mourinho issues transfer ultimatum as Man Utd summer plans begin to take shape

It is going to be a very busy summer at Old Trafford, and the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big things…

However, one thing that they don’t want to see happen is lose any key players – but there is, at least, a chance that their worst fear could become reality.

The player in question, as it so often has been in the past, is David De Gea. According to Marca, Jose Mourinho has issued an ultimatum to Real Madrid this summer with regards to the Spaniard, and it appears as though he could be willing to do a deal – provided that Los Blancos meet one of two conditions. It is said that they either pay €75 million, which appears to be Man Utd’s asking price, or they provide €25 million AND Alvaro Morata – with Mourinho reportedly a big fan of the Spaniard.

Indeed, this is some change of perspective from Mourinho, who up until now appeared reluctant to sell. Of course, he still would prefer not to move on his star shot-stopper on, but he appears willing provided that he gets something major in return.

Morata, certainly, would be a prize describable as ‘major’. He has been in fine form in La Liga this year, bagging 15 goals, and seems certain to move this summer. Man Utd, of course, could be looking to improve their striking situation this summer, with Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic both seemingly unlikely to feature next season.

The Man Utd fans in the pub would love to see Morata join, though they aren’t sure about the prospect of De Gea leaving…
