Mourinho looks to trump United in the race for Angel

Jose Mourinho is set to re-ignite his feud with Sir Alex Ferguson as Inter Milan enter the race to sign Benfica winger Angel Di Maria.

The £15m rated Argentine has been on the radar of Sir Alex for some time now and even Chelsea are said to be keeping tabs with Frank Arnesen having been to Portugal to watch the winger.

But The Daily Mail claim that Mourinho’s Inter watched Di Maria on Sunday as Benfica defeated Rio Ave 1-0 and having been impressed with his performance over 90 minutes, are now preparing an offer of around £15m to bring the 21 year old to Milan.

Earlier this month it was reported that Fergie had offered Benfica £12m plus out of favour Portuguese winger Nani in an effort to snag Di Maria yet nothing came of it so it appears that United will have to up their offer if they want to trump Mourinho.

Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira has staunchly refuted any deal will take place but has recently softened his stance on the players exit by claiming he will not stand in Di Maria’s way if a club is willing to meet his release clause:

‘The player will be allowed to leave in the transfer window if another club pays the clause in his contract. We need to know what the offer will be and then make a decision on which is the best value for the club.’
