The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are intrigued to see how Jose Mourinho will utilise young players next season…
The Portuguese manager has shown a reluctance to offer young players a chance throughout his career, with youngsters at the likes of Inter Milan and Chelsea both feeling the effects of that in recent years.
At Man Utd, though, there have been signs that he is willing to change – with Marcus Rashford really coming of age under the manager last season.
There are more signs that he is willing to change his tact, too, with the Daily Record reporting that he has made a decision on young Andreas Pereira – with the Brazilian reportedly set to feature within the Man Utd squad next season. It is said that Mourinho has decided to include him in both his Premier League and Champions League squad this season following a stellar showing during pre-season.
Given the financial backing that Mourinho has received this summer, it is certainly refreshing to see that he is recognising the talent that he already has at the club, with the Mourinho of yesteryear perhaps more likely to invest in a big money signing and loan out the young midfielder instead.
He is unlikely to feature on a regular basis, but simply training with and being involved in the Man Utd squad may well do him the world of good next season.
Pereira may not be the most well known of Man Utd’s young players, but he is certainly one of the best. His performances during pre-season have been fantastic, and whilst he isn’t quite ready to displace the likes of Mkhitaryan and Mata, he will certainly look to give them a run for their money as the season progresses.
The decision makes financial sense for Man Utd as it will allow them to focus on improving more immediately necessary areas, with depth in the attacking midfield no longer a problem.
Our landlord is hoping that this is an example of a change in tactic from the manager.
