The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Jose Mourinho’s spending to continue…
The Portuguese manager has spent freely since moving to Old Trafford, and according to the Sun, his spending could be about to continue in a big way.
The Sun reports that Mourinho has made up his mind on the left-back that he wants in his team, and a move of around £50 million is said to be being prepared. The player in question is Tottenham’s Danny Rose, whose future in North London continues to look uncertain.
Though he returned to training this week, comments by Rose earlier this year soured relations between Tottenham and the player, whilst the emergence of Ben Davies on the left has reduced his stock massively.
Indeed, the rise of Davies could be the final nail in the coffin for Rose at Spurs, with the Englishman no longer a guaranteed starter at the club.
A big offer may be able to tempt Tottenham, given the context, and so perhaps Man Utd have a genuine chance of thrashing this deal out.
That said, Levy will, of course, be hesitant to do a deal with a Premier League rival, but as we saw with Kyle Walker over the summer, everybody has a price.
In terms of where he would fit in, Rose would likely walk straight into the first team at Man Utd, with the likes of Blind and Shaw failing to fill the void that Mourinho is looking to close.
An expert attacker and a solid defender, Rose would be a hit in Manchester.
Any deal would be an expensive one, and whilst he may be rated at £25.2 million by Transfer Markt, Man Utd will be well aware that they will have to pay a premium to even get Tottenham to consider a move – hence the reported £50 million interest.
This will be an interesting prospective move to follow.
