The Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are getting used to transfer windows under Jose Mourinho, but their expectations of bigger and bigger deals are getting higher.
Those expectations may well be met this summer, though, with reports from The Sun claiming that a deal for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata could well set the club back a staggering £180m.
The red-top state that the 24-year-old, who they reckon will command a world-record breaking £90m fee to make the move from Madrid to Manchester, before being offered a five-year-deal worth in the region of £350k-a-week, or another £90m.
Should the tabloid be correct, the move would surpass the £89m fee the Red Devils paid to land midfielder Paul Pogba from Juventus last summer and see the transfer record broken twice in one year.
Our landlord however is always one to err on the side of caution and can’t see Mourinho forking out such a fee for a striker who, regardless of his quality, spent the majority of last season on the bench, however, it does remain a key deal given the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Man United fans, we want to hear from you! Surely the Morata fee won’t rise this high, will it? Would the Spaniard be worth £180m over five years? Let us know in the comments below…Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
