Manchester United may have surrendered yet another Premier League title this season, but with an FA Cup and Champions League crown up for grabs, it is all to play for for Jose Mourinho’s men this season.
United fans here in The Transfer Tavern harbour huge doubts over their side’s ability to deliver silverware this season however, with the domestic dominance of Manchester City sure to threaten their FA Cup dreams, and a number of top clubs vying for an elusive European crown. Our landlord caught up with fans over a pint to discuss what United needed this month to secure a trophy, with fans quick to bring up reports in The Telegraph that Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy had emerged as a potential target for the club. A bit of a shock, some United fans were actually open to the move, with our landlord also seeing the benefits of a deal.
Vardy is perhaps one of the most consistent strikers in the division, and his goals during Leicester’s phenomenal title winning year simply cannot be ignored. United need depth behind Romelu Lukaku, and there is no reason why the England man shouldn’t be considered for the role. Whether the club are willing to stump up a mega fee for a 31-year-old remains to be seen, but this could be a deal that delivers trophies to Old Trafford. Eligible for both the FA Cup, having sat out of the 0-0 draw at Fleetwood, and the Champions League, Vardy would slip straight into the squad fighting on both fronts, and Mourinho would be guaranteed goals.
This deal really isn’t as far fetched as some might believe.
