Mourinho planning to make major Man Utd addition as defensive overhaul looms – report

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are ready for Jose Mourinho to complete his Man Utd overhaul this summer. The Red Devils have had an up and down season, and over the last few months in particular, their form has been incredibly mixed.

Jose Mourinho clearly has a lot of work to do to turn his team back into Premier League title contenders, and with the summer transfer window fast approaching, the task on his hands is huge.

Fortunately, though, he’s already making plans to work towards that end.

According to the Daily Record, the Man Utd defence is expected to see a major overhaul this summer, with Jose Mourinho clearly keen to improve what has been a faltering section of the first team in recent months.

Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has apparently emerged as a primary target, and whilst Alex Sandro is Mourinho’s preferred choice, financial demands mean that the Portuguese has come around to the idea of bringing in Tierney.

Of course, Man Utd’s defensive line has struggled this season. Eric Bailly has had major injury problems, Luke Shaw has struggled, and the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have continued to prove that they are not up to the task of turning out every week for a top Premier League team.

Tierney, meanwhile, has impressed for Celtic this term, having emerged as one of their most important players. Left-back is clearly a problem area for the Red Devils, and the Scotsman has done everything right so far.

Landlord’s Verdict

Luke Shaw has what it takes to succeed at Man Utd, but Jose Mourinho clearly doesn’t feel that way.

As such, bringing in a new left-back makes sense, and Tierney would be a great option. He’s young and inexperienced, but he has bags of potential.

The suggestion that Mourinho wants to have a defensive overhaul does suggest that more players could come in, and so big changes could be coming this summer.
