The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern were impressed with their side’s performance against Swansea City on Tuesday evening. The game proved that the Red Devils’ loss against Huddersfield over the weekend was nothing but a blip, with a number of Jose Mourinho’s players impressing for their club. The result wasn’t the only good piece of news for Man Utd, though.
Indeed, the return of Phil Jones to the squad was also a big boost for the club, with many of the fans in the Transfer Tavern fearing the worst after he was substituted against Huddersfield over the weekend through injury. Though he was on the bench, his involvement in the squad left fans feeling optimistic, and manager Jose Mourinho provided a very exciting update following the game.
According to the official Man Utd website, Mourinho said: “I think Jones will be [back] because, today, he was on the bench and he told me he will be ready in case I need him. So I believe he’ll be even better for Saturday”.
It appears as though if he was completely necessary, Jones could have featured on Tuesday, but it makes sense for his club for Mourinho to hold him off until the weekend. Their upcoming clash with Tottenham, of course, is far more important than their game against Swansea City, and with the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli in fine form, Mourinho will need to field the best possible defence. Jones definitely falls under that banner.
This is great news for the club, and so the fans in the pub are delighted.
Phil Jones has made 9 Premier League appearances this season, and so he’s clearly an important player for Jose Mourinho.
His form has been sensational, to the surprise of the fans in the pub, and he has become indispensable.
