The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty confident ahead of the return of the Europa League this week…
The Red Devils are impressing as of late, and whilst there have been a few too many draws this season – Mourinho is leading his side well.
Unfortunately for the Red Devils in the pub, though, their confidence might take a bit of a hit upon hearing of Jose Mourinho’s latest injury update.
Speaking after Man Utd’s win over Blackburn Rovers, Mourinho has confirmed that the duo of Wayne Rooney and Phil Jones are both unlikely to feature on Wednesday, stating: “Rooney is injured. Jones is injured. I don’t think they will recover [to face Saint-Etienne on Wednesday]”.
This is a pretty big blow for the Red Devils, and whilst Wayne Rooney hasn’t really featured too much lately, his influence when he does play is invaluable. Jones, on the other hand, has been a surprise package for Man Utd this season – and his absence will surely weaken the Red Devils’ back line.
After a 3-0 win in the first leg, though, our landlord isn’t too concerned for Mourinho. Barring a catastrophe, the Red Devils should be able to secure progression, even without their talented duo.
Our resident Man Utd patrons are hopeful that Jones, in particular, will be back soon – with a EFL Cup final forthcoming this weekend.
