This is not the news that the Manchester United faithful here in the Tavern were hoping for ahead of the Manchester Derby…
It is always one of the busiest days of the season in the Football Transfer Tavern, and the build-up has already begun between the Manchester-based fans amongst us.
The game is still 10 days away, but both the United and the City fans in the Tavern are already discussing who they think might get an opportunity to play in the most hotly contested fixture of the Premier League calendar.
One player that has frequently been in predicted starting XI’s amongst the United faithful is recent signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan – but if this report is to be believed; they might have to scratch his name off of their squad lists…
According to Sky Sports, the Armenian midfielder could be set to miss the game after suffering a knee injury during an international clash for his country against the Czech Republic.
He was substituted as a precaution following a collision, but there are fears amongst the United faithful in the Tavern that the injury may have long-term ramifications.
Our landlord was touting Mkhitaryan for his first United league start in the game, but this is now looking increasingly unlikely.
He has made substitute appearances in each of United’s Premier League games thus far, but is yet to contribute a goal or an assist for his new club.
The signing was expected to come in and make an immediate for the Red Devils, but he may well have to wait for his full Premier League debut until he fully recovers from this injury.
Any long-term injury is as of yet unconfirmed, but things are not looking good for the ex-Borussia Dortmund man.
Man Utd fans – Thoughts? Would Mkhitaryan have been given a start against Man City? City fans – pleased that the Armenian might miss out?
