Mourinho reportedly urges Man Utd to make big move for £35.7m-rated midfielder

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed with the squad that Jose Mourinho has assembled…

The Portuguese has really made his mark on the Man Utd first team, bringing together a collection of some of Europe’s most talented players – with the likes of Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku both impressing.

However, ever the perfectionist, it appears as though that manager still isn’t happy, and it appears that if he gets his way, another European star will be coming to Old Trafford.

According to Don Balon, Mourinho has urged his club to move for Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto, who has a release clause of €40 million (£35.7 million).

Roberto has been unable to hold down a place in the Barcelona first team, particularly in his preferred midfield position, for much of his stint with the club – and this season he has found it particularly tough.

Thus, he could be open to a move away, and given his comparatively small release clause, it’s a move that would make sense for Man Utd. A versatile player, he is able to play in midfield and defence, and so he’s sure to become a regular if he does move to Old Trafford.

Of course, a prospective move remains some way off, and the Red Devils appear yet to make a move, but it does make sense for the club.

Landlord’s Verdict

If nothing changes at Barcelona, Roberto could be open to a move away, and a move to Man Utd makes sense.

Mourinho is clearly impressing in his role, and he’s building a remarkable side. A versatile player like Roberto could be the missing piece.

Most important of all, Barcelona could have little say in the matter if they are unable to raise his release clause.
