The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are still waiting for their side to sign a new midfielder…
Whilst big names like Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera feature prominently in the Man Utd midfield, with Michael Carrick now 35-years-old, there is a clear need for a bit of defensive steel in the middle of the park for the Red Devils.
So far, the club haven’t had much luck in that regard, but that is something that Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking to change. According to the Mirror, Jose Mourinho is still trying to convince Ed Woodward to stump up as much as £60 million in order to secure a deal for Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier – who has been impressive for the Lilywhites in recent years.
Dier was forced out of position for much of last season following the arrival of Victor Wanyama, with the Englishman often playing in defence as Tottenham shifted to a system utilising three central defenders. This could be something that Man Utd are looking to capitalise on, as he would no doubt feature in the Man Utd midfield were he to make a move.
That being said, it is going to be very difficult for Man Utd. Daniel Levy handles Tottenham’s transfers, and he is notoriously difficult to negotiate with. He likely won’t be too receptive to Man Utd’s wants, particularly with Ed Woodward on the other side.
The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are still holding out hope, though.
