The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with their team this season…
Jose Mourinho has built a fantastic side at Old Trafford, and they look destined to challenge for Premier League supremacy this term.
However, Jose Mourinho seemingly isn’t yet completely happy with the long-term prospects of his team. Indeed, he is said to be looking at one of Europe’s best midfielders as he looks to improve his squad even further.
According to the Sun, Radja Nainggolan is on Mourinho’s radar as the Portuguese considers his options for replacing Michael Carrick next season – with scouts on hand to watch the midfielder.
It seems as though next season will be a logical time to move for the Belgian, who is rated at £36 million by Transfer Markt. Michael Carrick’s contract will, at that time, have expired and the club will likely be in the market for a replacement.
A powerful midfielder, Nainggolan is fantastic with the ball at his feet, able to drive forward and leave his mark on opposition defences. He’s also solid defensively, with his natural aggressive streak often proving vital for Roma.
He’ll be a hard player to sign, as Roma won’t want to sell him, but in terms of quality, Mourinho would struggle to do better.
Nainggolan is a top player, but is he what Man Utd need right now?
A Carrick replacement will be a focus of Man Utd’s transfer dealings next summer, but at 29-years-old, is he the long-term solution that the club would ideally go for?
You also have to think about the cost. He’s nearly 30, and Roma are likely to demand more than his market value considering that his current contract doesn’t expire until 2021.
There’s a lot for Mourinho to think about.
