Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are reacting to news that their defensive spending is not over this summer, despite having landed a big deal earlier this week.
The Manchester Evening News states that new Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is keen to sign at least one more defender ahead of the new season, having sealed the signature of Eric Bailly from Villarreal yesterday.
£30m Bailly arrived as Mourinho’s first signing since taking charge at Old Trafford last month and the former Chelsea boss is keen to continue his rebuild, with La Liga duo Raphael Varane and Aymeric Laporte on his short-list.
Although an exciting addition, Bailly has spent just one-season as a regular starter for Villarreal and his experience may be questioned, which means Mourinho is keen to add a more experienced name to his defensive ranks.
Further signings may well lead to speculation on the future of current men in United’s ranks, with Phil Jones and Matteo Darmian potentially on the way out if additional defenders come in.
