The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are on cloud-9 at the moment…
The Red Devils currently sit at the top of the Premier League table with a 100% record so far, with Jose Mourinho working wonders at the helm at present.
Indeed, as is the norm under the manager, his second season looks set to be his best yet, with consistency proving to be key.
One player that has impressed as much as any other is young Anthony Martial, who has up until this point struggled under Mourinho. Though he is yet to start a domestic game this season, he has been called upon in both fixtures, and he has bagged a goal in each from the bench.
Following Man Utd’s dominant 4-0 victory over Swansea City, Mourinho discussed the Frenchman, and he has revealed where he fits into his plans this season.
Mourinho said: “We’re using him well and he’s coming with the right attitude…Of course he wants to play, of course he wants to start, of course he wants to be selected for the national team, of course he wants to go to the World Cup, so that’s good”.
He continued: “And for me it’s simple. I can’t play Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup with 11 players, I need a squad“
Whilst Mourinho admits that Martial won’t be a regular starter, at least at the moment, the vast quantity of games that Man Utd will play this season means that the Frenchman will play a big role nonetheless, with no fewer than four competitions to battle through at Old Trafford.
Martial obviously wants to start, and if he keeps performing as he has so far, there is no doubting that he will get his chance.
Man Utd’s squad is solid, but it isn’t exactly the most lengthy in the Premier League, and so Martial shouldn’t have a problem getting a few chances under Mourinho.
His role will only increase as the season progresses.
