The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were celebrating earlier in the week when they finally completed the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal. The Chile international adds plenty of quality to Man United’s attacking ranks. He signed for the Red Devils in an exchange deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan head to Arsenal, much to the delight of our resident Reds.
And Mkhitaryan might not be the only player to leave Manchester United this month. A number of other players, including Matteo Darmian and Juan Mata, have been linked with an exit this January or in the summer. But there is one other player who should definitely consider leaving before the end of the transfer window.
Marouane Fellaini should be looking for a route out of Old Trafford before the transfer window slams shut. The lofty Belgian is not Jose Mourinho’s first choice, although the Man United boss does like using him as an impact substitute.
But with the World Cup coming up this summer, the Belgium international needs to be eyeing a starting spot in Roberto Martinez’s side. In order to secure this ahead of the likes of Axel Witsel, Leander Dendoncker and Mousa Dembele, the central midfielder needs to move away and play regular games as a starter elsewhere.
Fellaini will not be short of suitors. Turkish clubs have taken an interest in him and West Ham are also looking for a central midfielder. A move to The London Stadium would be a good move for Fellaini (rated at £10.8m on Transfermarkt) as he could play a starring role in a mid-table team again and he would reunite with David Moyes.
With his contract due to expire in the summer, a move away this month would also benefit Manchester United, who would avoid losing him for nothing.
