The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are hopeful that Pep Guardiola will look to build a long-term transfer strategy at the Etihad. Over the last few years, the Citizens have had to rely on older, more experienced talent as their side transitions following a hugely successful spell. Under Guardiola, though, that appears to be changing.
Young players like Leroy Sane, John Stones and Gabriel Jesus have been brought in to form the foundations of a team that is expected to dominate for the foreseeable future, and according to Sky Sports, another move in that vein could be forthcoming.
Sky Sports reports that Man City are ‘expected’ to make a bid for £35m-rated Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare, who is seemingly interesting Pep Guardiola. A midfielder by trade, the Frenchman is said to draws parallels with Yaya Toure – perhaps giving the Man City faithful an opening into what they could be getting if he were to move.
The Man City midfield, of course, is arguably the last remaining facet of the old guard at the club, with both Fernandinho and Yaya Toure now two of the older players within the squad. Whilst the former is expected to remain at the club having just renewed his contract, Toure’s deal expires this summer – with Soumare likely viewed as a good replacement.
A technically gifted midfielder, Soumare has impressed in Ligue 1 this year with his fantastic dribbling, aerial presence and skill on the ball. Given the fact that he is rated so highly by his club, there is no doubt that the midfield ace has incredible potential.
At 18-years-old, he would represent yet another example of Guardiola building for the future. The Sun has previously suggested that they are keen, but this report from Sky Sports indicates that they are ready to take their interest to the next level.
At present, there is a perfect balance of youth, experience, potential and quality at the Etihad, and Soumare would certainly help to tip the scales in that regard.
He’s got bags of potential, but that doesn’t mean that he isn’t good enough to do a job immediately. He has made 8 appearances in Ligue 1 this term, and he’s clearly a player on the rise. He’d fit right in at the Etihad.
