Chelsea are looking good this season, but Maurizio Sarri is still facing one major problem – and it involves his strikers. Neither Olivier Giroud or Alvaro Morata have hit the ground running yet this season, with both failing to impress in the English top flight.
Given how reliant Maurizio Sarri is on good attacking play, that’s a major problem for the club. If his forwards can’t score, that puts more emphasis on the players around them to do just that; and that prevents them from focusing on creating play – which is typically what they do best.
The Blues, then, will never be able to dominate as intended without a top class forward, and it’s clear at this point that Alvaro Morata is simply not what they need.
However, Andrea Belotti, who is rated at £34.2 million by Transfer Markt, just might be.
What Chelsea need is a forward that is guaranteed to score goals, and Belotti’s record over the last few years has been stellar. His real emergence began in the 2015/16 season, when he bagged 12 goals in just over 30 league starts – a modest return. He blew that record out of the water a year later, bagging a stunning 26 league goals. Indeed, he’s scored close to 50 league goals so far in his career – and he’s only 24-years-old.
It’s worth noting, of course, that he’s also done all this whilst playing for Torino – a team that certainly isn’t amongst Europe’s best. If he were surrounded by the likes of Eden Hazard and Willian, you’d expect his record to only improve. Morata gets more service than most, but he continually fails to put the ball in the back of the net, and so a forward with a good conversion rate is what Chelsea need.
Offering fantastic energy, pace and technique, not to mention goalscoring, Belotti would be able to offer everything and more in contrast to Morata – and for Chelsea, that’s the number one priority as far as improvements are concerned.
