No matter which way you spin it, it's fair to say that Alexis Sanchez's time at Man Utd has been a crushing disappointment thus far. He moved to Old Trafford with a rich pedigree, having been Arsenal's main man for several years. He was proven at the highest level, and he was certainly proven in the Premier League, with consistent performances produced by the Chilean for years.

His move to Old Trafford, then, was considered a bit of a coup for the club and it was deemed a hugely positive step forward, and that was reflected in the seismic salary that he was offered. Indeed, according to the Sun, he's earning over £500,000-per-week.

Naturally, then, you'd expect that sort of financial backing to deliver results, but it hasn't so far. He's yet to score a single Premier League goal this term, and he's actually been one of Man Utd's worst performers. Furthermore, he'll be 30-years-old by the time the year is out, and so this move is quickly beginning to look like a bust for the Red Devils.

Replacing him, then, needs to be a priority for the club if he continues to underperform, and one man that would offer an instant upgrade on the Chilean is French star Florian Thauvin, who is rated at £45 million by Transfer Markt.

Since leaving the Premier League, Thauvin has undergone a career resurgence, and having won the World Cup over the summer, the Frenchman now finds himself as one of Europe's most in-form players. Indeed, he's already bagged 6 goals this term, leaving players like Sanchez in his wake as a result.

Though he's typically played more of a role on the right-hand side this term, he's able to play across the attack, and so that versatility would be useful for Man Utd. He could directly replace Sanchez, or he could take up a role on the right - allowing Anthony Martial to move back to his more natural left-sided position.

If they were to bring him in, they'd certainly be getting one of Europe's finest forwards. Admittedly, Ligue 1 is at a lower level than the Premier League, but he's currently outshining the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, at least as far as statistics are concerned. That's no easy feat, and that indicates the sort of player that he is.

Brilliant dribbling, fantastic set pieces, excellent passing, lethal goalscoring - in truth, there's nothing that Thauvin can't do. In Alexis Sanchez, Man Utd were looking for a superstar, but they're yet to get that; but they'd find a genuine gamechanger in Thauvin.
