Moyes gets some bad news as West Ham are handed significant blow

The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed with their side’s turnaround following the arrival of David Moyes. It seems a long time ago now, but before his arrival, their position was precarious. They looked like genuine relegation candidates, and there looked to be no changes on the horizon.

They’re not out of trouble yet, but given that they’re currently in 12th place, Moyes has done a very good job thus far.

However, his job for the rest of the season is going to be tougher now, owing to a rather significant blow to the Scotsman’s squad. According to Sky Sports News, Pedro Obiang could miss the rest of the season – after having surgery on an injured knee.

This is a massive blow for the Hammers, given just how crucial Obiang is to Moyes’ plans. He has made 18 Premier League starts this season, and he was particularly vital during West Ham’s busy January run.

A powerful, game-controlling midfielder, Obiang’s qualities are difficult to replicate, and so Moyes will certainly have his work cut out as he looks to secure some cover for him.

The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are frustrated with this, as they aren’t quite sure who is going to replace him.

Obiang last played at the end of January in the FA Cup against Wigan.

Landlord’s Verdict

The midfield has been a problem area for West Ham, and so it’s strange that they didn’t improve in this position in January.

Moyes isn’t blessed with bodies throughout his squad, and that’s particularly true of the midfield, and so this injury is going to stretch his team, undoubtedly.

How they’ll cope remains to be seen, but someone is going to have to step up to cover him. Moyes certainly has his work cut out.
