Manchester United fans are looking up with glee here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Metro notes that David Moyes is set to make a £25 million bid for Marouane Fellaini.
The former Everton manager has made it clear just how much he admires his former player and has made no secret of the fact he would like to bring him to Old Trafford. Fellaini would also relish the chance of a move as well as the opportunity to prove himself at the highest level and play Champions League football, and a £25 million bid could be about to make that happen.
Everton are, understandably, reluctant to sell one of their best players and to the side that took their former manager to boot and have already told Moyes that a joint £30 million bid for the midfielder and left back Leighton Baines is a no go. Given Manchester United have thus far failed to make any sort of impact in the summer transfer window, they now seem to be going all out to land the Belgium International.
The Champions have also been heavily linked with Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil in the Spanish press of late, and as one of our punters notes, the club look determined to make at least one marquee signing this summer, no matter how hard Roberto Martinez and the Everton board try to prevent them.
Moyes has noted that the club are looking to bring in ‘several new faces’ before the close of the transfer window and looks prepared to also go back in with another bid for left back Leighton Baines before the transfer window closes. Given the new manager has already complained about the initial run of fixtures for the club, maybe sooner rather than later would be advisable.
