Moyes reportedly keen on 12-cap international as West Ham look to strengthen with PL experience

West Ham United fans will look to the January transfer window with great expectations, with new boss David Moyes expected to be backed by the club’s owners as he goes in pursuit of players to guide his side away from the bottom three.

Hammers fans here in The Transfer Tavern are no exception, and have been keeping a close eye on any word emerging from the London Stadium as to who will be the latest man through the doors of the East London side. A central midfielder appears high on Moyes’ wishlist, with The Sun reporting today that the former Manchester United and Everton boss is lining up a shock bid for Burnley man, Scott Arfield.

The Canadian international’s contract is set to expire in the summer, with Burnley boss Sean Dyche possibly tempted to cash in on the player rather than let him walk for nothing in the summer. The Sun reports that the 29-year-old could be available for a fee in the region of £3 million.

Landlord’s Verdict: Having been linked with big money moves for the likes of Jonjo Shelvey in recent days, news of the club’s interest in Arfield may come as a surprise. The player has performed to a consistently high level since the Clarets promotion to the Premier League, and could prove to be a solid signing by Moyes for a relatively risk-free fee.

The experienced international has experience at both Championship and Premier League level, and Moyes is keen to add additional knowledge to the middle of the park this month. Should Arfield be available for such a low price, Moyes may as well take a punt on the player.
