Moyes Will Take £5M Spurs Star & Let Him Shine At Last

Everton are on the brink of completing the long-overdue sale of Joseph Yobo for £3.5m to Fenerbache this week, and recent press suggestions have it that the proceeds will go towards funding a move for Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia. However, current rumours circling around Goodison Park suggest a move for Tottenham’s Niko Kranjcar is more likely.

Since his £2.5m move to White Hart Lane at the start of the 2009/2010 season, Kranjcar has failed to hold down a starting position. This is no slur on the player himself, more a comment on the quality of the Spurs midfield which has been able to boast Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Rafael Van Der Vaart ahead of the Croat.

Rumours suggest a £5m bid will be placed as soon as the Yobo deal is completed, and you would expect this to be at least £2m, maybe even £4m cheaper than the price Everton would have to pay for N’Zogbia. Economically, the deal makes a lot more sense.

Both players would occupy the left flank at Goodison Park, a problem area for the Toffees following Steven Pienaar’s departure to Tottenham. Russian Diniyar Bilyaletdinov tried to but failed to cement that position, and Blues boss David Moyes has resorted to playing misfit Victor Anichebe there on occasion.

Kranjcar would be a fantastic signing for the Blues but it remains to be seen whether the Croatian international would be willing to sacrifice European football to gain a first team place. Undoubtedly, there will be other clubs interested, and surely one or two of those could offer European football which eluded the Toffees last season.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is a big admirer of Kranjcar, having brought to England originally with Portsmouth. However, Redknapp would be willing to allow the player to leave, such is the respect commanded with his first-rate attitude.

Having failed in a late bid to sign the Croat from Pompey when he moved to Spurs, David Moyes may feel now is the time to strike to secure a player he has watched for some time.
