Arsenal

Mr Lee Predicts!

...with Jonathan Lee

After the drudgery of the international break we can finally get back to the football we all love – the Premiership!

The highlights of the weekends football include the Merseyside derby and Chelsea’s trip to Villa Park.

Here are my Predictions:

Arsenal v Birmingham

Both teams enter this fixture off the back of defeats in their previous game.

Arsenal missed their opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Chelsea and Birmingham were defeated by lowly Everton.

After suffering back to back defeats Arsene Wenger will be keen to get his sides season back on track and I believe they have the attacking might to overpower Birmingham.

My Prediction: 2-1

Bolton v Stoke

With both teams renowned for their physical approach to the beautiful game, this game could be an ugly spectacle to behold.

Both teams can expect to be under the microscope of those who have criticised their aggressive brand of football, following De Jong’s leg breaker challenge on Ben Arfa.

I think this game will be a draw.

My Prediction: 1-1

Fulham v Tottenham

Fulham are proving hard to beat under Mark Hughes management and are still unbeaten in the league this season.

Simon Davies said of Fulham’s season so far ‘We look a really dangerous team and it has been a shame that we have not gone on and won a couple more games’.

Tottenham have a Champions League game ahead of this week which could have a detrimental effect on their performance. I think this game will be a draw.

My Prediction: 1-1

Manchester United v West Brom

Only two points separate the two sides in this match after seven games this season, after some amazing results for Albion that has seen them rise to sixth place in the Premier League .

Manchester United have suffered some underwhelming form so far this season with their defensive record being particularly disappointing, so the return of Rio Ferdinand to partner Vidic in central defence will provide a big boost for United.

Alex Ferguson has commented on his teams inability to kill off games this season and will be hoping his team can rediscover their ruthless edge.

My Prediction: 2-0

Newcastle v Wigan

Wigan look to be finally sorting out their defensive problems that plagued them in the opening games of the season with Martinez’s side unbeaten in three games and successive clean sheets in the league.

Newcastle are without Ben Arfa after De Jongs now notorious and horrific challenge and they will be hoping their players aren’t exposed to anymore misfortune along those lines.

With both teams performing very erratically this season its hard to tell who will win this match, but I’m going with Newcastle.

My Prediction: 2-0

Wolves v West Ham

Mick McCarthy will be desperate for his team to end a  run of four successive defeats when they play West Ham at home this weekend .

The Hammers have finally got their Premiership campaign kicked off with five points from their last three league matches, after having lost their first four games.

I think this bottom of the league battle will end in a draw.

My Prediction: 1-1

Aston Villa v Chelsea

Chelsea’s perfect start to the season was interrupted by back to back defeats against Newcastle and Manchester City, but they bounced back with a win over Arsenal before the international break.

Chelsea had trouble on their travels against fourth place contenders last season, losing against Man City, Tottenham and Villa.

Carlo Ancelotti has a growing injury list and will have to manage without prolific striker Didier Drogba this weekend. His team will have to put in a great performance in order to come away with all three points from this fixture.

My Prediction: 1-1

Everton v Liverpool

Part of me is keen to crack wise and label this a match ‘relegation dogfight’, but I’m above taking cheap-shots like that.

I imagine both teams will have no relegation worries come the end of the season, though not based on their results so far this season.

Everton’s season has began to pick up with their first win of the season against Birmingham. I can see this one being a draw.

My Prediction: 1-1

Blackpool v Manchester City

Blackpool have one of the biggest surprises of the season so far,  with Ian Holloway like an alchemist turning lead into gold in the way he has miraculously transformed his team.

City enter the match on a three game win streak as Mancini’s expensive team finally looking to gel together well.

However, there have been indicators that there is trouble in paradise with Tevez complaining he is growing tired of life as a footballer in an interview this week and Mancini admitting that he and his captain exchanged angry words at half time in their game against Newcastle

Blackpool are still without a win at home and I do not think they will get any points this weekend in this poor versus rich match against City.

My Prediction: 0-2

Blackburn v Sunderland

Sunderland striker Darren Bent is a doubt for this game following his injury training with the England squad on Monday.

Given Bent has scored 83% of Sunderlands goals so far this season his omission for the game could be costly.

I expect this game will be closely fought and low scoring.

My Prediction: 0-0
