Chelsea’s trip to Eastlands promises to be the highlight of the weekend’s football and the biggest challenge the Champions have yet faced to their 100% winning start to the season.
Man City may have equalled and surpassed Chelsea in terms of their spending might of late, but they still have some catching up to do in terms of the quality of the football they are playing.
Both teams enter the game of the back of mid-week Carling Cup defeats that they will want to put firmly behind them and Chelsea will be seeking revenge against City after they completed a famous double over them last season.
City manager Roberto Mancini has stated that his side has ‘big problems’ in reference to his lack of a fit left back in the run up to the game. He stated ‘I hope that Micah Richards can recover. If not I don’t know who can play left-back.’
Frank Lampard and John Terry are expected to be fit and available to play on Saturday after they both had to sit out of the game against Blackpool due to injury.
Injuries to Kalou and Benayoun leaves Ancelotti with fewer attacking options on the bench, so he will be relying Drogba, Malouda and Anelka who have been formidable for Chelsea of late, albeit against weaker teams than Man City.
City’s home form is strong and they are certain to cause Chelsea problems. Games like these are the kind that will be looked back on as defining points at the end of the season and each team is sure to rise to the occasion.
Chelsea have had an easy ride so far this season and its hard to see them running away with this one in the same fashion they have in the majority of their fixtures this season.
I think it will be close, but Chelsea will win this match.
My Prediction: 1-2
