Crystal Palace and Southampton fans have been particularly quiet in the Transfer Tavern during the international break following defeats for their sides last time out.
Roy Hodgson’s Eagles suffered a seventh successive loss by going down 4-0 at Manchester United ten days ago to keep them firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League, whereas Mauricio Pellegrino’s Saints lost 2-1 at Stoke City to suffer defeat for the third time this term.
Both teams will be hoping for better when league action resumes this weekend, yet good news may already be on the way for both sides if a recent report from Diario Sport (via talkSPORT) is anything to go by.
The 24-year-old moved to the Nou Camp back in 2016 following a long association with Valencia, but things haven’t quite gone according to plan for the Spain international with the European heavyweights.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the striker has been unable to dislodge the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in Ernesto Valverde’s side, and as such has been restricted to just 30 first team appearances for the club, of which only 12 have been starts.
And with no appearances in their last five La Liga matches, it’s clear that Alcacer isn’t going to command regular football this season either, and reports suggest that he will indeed be allowed to move on in January.
And having reportedly expressed an interest earlier this year, this is sure to provide welcome news for both Palace and Southampton, who may now have to battle each other for the 24-year-old’s signature.
Landlord’s verdict: Paco Alcacer was always going to struggle for regular football at Barcelona, even if Neymar did leave the club during the summer.
But just two La Liga appearances this term is likely worse than he would have expected, and with just six league starts last season as well, the writing appears to be on the wall.
Both Crystal Palace and Southampton expressed an interest earlier this year but no move materialised, and reports that he will indeed be allowed to leave Barca will surely be well received by both clubs, especially given their respective goal-scoring issues this season.
