Multi-time league winner reportedly ready to wait for Chelsea to make their move

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are loving life under Antonio Conte. The Italian has had a phenomenal impact at Stamford Bridge since moving to London, with their Premier League title win last season coming as a huge surprise to everyone in the pub. Recent reports from the Sun surrounding his future, then, have generated a lot of concern in the pub.

According to the Sun, Chelsea are already preparing for the manager to leave the club, and they are not expecting him to see out the rest of his contract. Instead, they are reportedly preparing for Carlo Ancelotti to return to the club, with the Italian having kept in contact with the Blues over the last few years. He is said to be ready to ‘wait’ for the call from Chelsea.

It’s concerning, of course, that the Blues are preparing for that event, but it’s no real surprise. When Antonio Conte agreed a new deal at Chelsea with no extension on its length, for many of the fans in the pub, the writing was on the wall. When combined with Chelsea’s poor run of form, there has certainly been a lot of anxiety in the pub over the last few hours.

At present, this appears to be just a contingency plan, but there could be a real chance of it going one step further.

Landlord’s Verdict

Ancelotti would be a great replacement for Conte, that much is certain. He has won it all in Europe, with many league titles under his belt, and he had so much success with the Blues during his last stint in London.

That said, Chelsea shouldn’t even be thinking about moving Conte on right now. Results-wise, things aren’t great, but given how much the Blues overperformed last term, he can surely be forgiven for that. With just under two years remaining on his current deal, barring any catastrophy, the Blues should at least try and see him through to the end of that tenure.
