The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to their young defender, Konstantinos Mavropanos as the Greek defender put in a top draw performance on his debut, despite being on the losing side at Old Trafford. The 20-year-old was one of Arsenal’s best players in yesterday’s visit to Old Trafford, although it wasn’t to be for him as Arsene Wenger’s fell to a 2-1 loss in the manager’s last visit to Old Trafford as Arsenal coach.

The display put in by Mavropanos was top draw and deserved more than a 2-1 loss. The Greek defender handled everything he was faced with individually in the 90 minutes and he can’t be held to blame for either of the Manchester United goals. For a time it looked as if Mavropanos and co would be leaving Old Trafford with their first away point of the year, until Marouane Fellaini popped up with a 91st-minute winner to extend Arsenal’s losing run on the road to six games.
The team that Wenger played was the youngest Arsenal eleven since the club’s visit to Old Trafford in 2011, in that game the Frenchman saw his side thrashed 8-2. Calum Chambers, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Reiss Nelson and Alex Iwobi were the other youngsters who were thrown a start at Old Trafford and overall, Arsenal impressed despite being outplayed for most of the game. Putting the result aside, the Gunners will be pleased with the performance of Mavropanos and will hope the youngster can build on his Old Trafford showing over the next few years.
